The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound strives to be the organization of choice for voluntarism and community partnerships in support of women and children in the Sound Shore area.

The Golden Shoestring is the primary fundraiser of the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (JLWOS). Proceeds from this "nearly new" shop support community projects and help fund scholarships and community grants. The Golden Shoestring is located in Larchmont, one half block west of Boston Post Road at 149 Larchmont Avenue.

Over the past nine years, JLWOS has distributed more than $400,000 in community grants to area non-profits. These grants are awarded to Sound Shore organizations that support the needs of women and children in our service area (New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye, Rye Brook, and Port Chester).  With these grants, JLWOS is able to expand its reach beyond the League’s own community projects. The amount of individual grants awarded ranges from $100 to $10,000 with an average grant size of approximately $2,000. Grants are ultimately awarded based on merit, need and the availability of funds.

2010 JLWOS Community Grants Checklist

High School Seniors residing in the JLWOS service area and who will enroll in a full time course of study during the 2010-2011 school year at an accredited two- or four-year college or university are eligible.  This is a non-need based scholarship and grade point is not a determining factor.  This year, one $4000 scholarship is available for an individual who demonstrates superior acheivement and participation in worthwhile Community Service.
